A Philippine Human Rights NGO providing Psychosocial Services and Rehabilitation to Internally Displaced Persons and Survivors of Torture and Organized Violence.

Solidarity Message: "Torture is a crime under international law and cannot be justified under any circumstances." - Dignity

For more than thirty years DIGNITY – the Danish Institute Against Torture – has specialized in the prevention of torture and ill-treatment, and the rehabilitation of torture survivors. International collaboration with human rights organizations like Balay, aimed at diminishing the after-effects of torture and preventing the use of torture and ill treatment, is at the heart of DIGNITY’s work.

The partnership between Balay and DIGNITY has been going on for the last twelve years and is still developing. DIGNITY truly admires Balay’s professionalism, commitment and tireless work to prevent torture and organized violence and to support survivors seeking redress and rehabilitation. Balay deserve credit for their ability to organize and work together with other organizations and gain results in different settings and on different levels from national to local.

DIGNITY strongly supports the United Against Torture Coalition and the BRAT initiative. Torture is a crime under international law and cannot be justified under any circumstances, even for reasons of state security or during armed conflict. DIGNITY encourages the newly established Philippine government to continue the full implementation of the anti-torture Public Act of 2009 R.A. 9745, also known as the Act Penalizing Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment and prescribing Penalties Therefore and for Other Purposes. Today, on the 26th June, we are proud to share this message of solidarity with partners in the Philippines committed to a world without torture. Only together can we pursue this goal.
